Maintenance and Cleaning Guide for Our Residential Railings

Care and Cleaning

Congratulations on purchasing your own Precision Aluminum SmartRail System. Here are a few simple tips to help you keep your railings clean and maintained for many years.

General Cleaning

  • Clean your new railings at least twice a year, using a soft sponge with mild, non-abrasive soap and water. If you live in climates where salt and pollutants are more prevalent (in industrial areas or near the ocean), be sure to clean them more frequently. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water to remove all residual soap.

  • Remember to use a soft, wet sponge, as a dry one may scratch the powder coating.

  • Glass can be cleaned using common glass cleaning products.

  • For minor scuffs and scratches, use another mild or non-abrasive product (e.g. 'Vim' or 'Soft Scrub').

  • During the natural aging process of the powder coating, you may notice a white ''chalk° or powder that forms on the surface. This Is normal and can be cleaned and polished to bring back the sheen. Some recommended products are: Vim' or 'Soft Scrub', a cut-polish, or any other non-abrasive product.

  • Treat spots on paint or sealant with turpentine, isopropyl alcohol, methylated spirits or white spirits.

  • Be sure to remove environmental stains such as sap, bugs and tree seeds as soon as possible to prevent prolonged exposure to sunlight, which can make these stains more difficult to remove.

  • To avoid damaging or causing discolouration of the railing's finish, avoid using certain household cleaners, abrasive agents, harsh chemicals, strong solvents, acids, steel wool and industrial cleaners.

  • Before applying any product to your Precision Aluminum railing, test a small, inconspicuous area.

Fastener Maintenance

  • It is the responsibility of the owner to inspect the condition of all fasteners at least once a year and have them maintained.

  • Over time, fasteners may loosen and require re-tightening.

  • We also recommend applying a light coat of floor or car wax to the tops of all exposed fasteners every 3-6 months to help prevent oxidation.

  • Surface rust is part of normal aging and won't affect the strength or integrity of the fastener.
