These FAQs also consist of important bits of information that will ensure the best solution for you. So dive deep and get answers to all your railings-related questions in one place.

Why should I consider an aluminum railing product versus wood, steel or iron?

Precision Aluminum Railings are super-low maintenance. Unlike wood railings that need to be protected from insects and decay, or other railings prone to rust and peeling paint, Precision Aluminum Railings feature long-life rust-free powder coatings that endure any negligible maintenance requirements.

I Have a unique railing project in mind. Does Precision Aluminum Railings offer custom work?

Yes! Precision Aluminum Railings are fully customizable and are custom-finished for the actual dimensions of your deck or landing. Choose any style detailing you want, pick any color you want, and we can match the design scheme you select. We can also accommodate any height or unique angle requirements you have. In short, we can build a railing system to your specifications that will create that custom look you’re after.

Do Precision Aluminum Railings meet all North American building codes?

Yes. The Precision Aluminum Railing System is engineered to meet all major Canadian building code requirements.

What is powder coating, and why use it?

Powder coating is one of the most durable exterior finishes available today. It is used on many aluminum items that are exposed to the weather because, as a finish, it is the best way to ensure durability, weather resistance, and color retention. A powder-coated finish is part paint and part polyester sealer/resin. The finish is applied as a powder, electrostatically, and while held to the aluminum this way, is baked in an oven. It is baked at a hot enough temperature so, in effect, the outside layer of the aluminum fuses with the melted powder forming a hard, weather-resistant finish.

What heights are available?

Precision Aluminum railing is available in 2 standard heights, 36" and 42"

How do the posts attach to the deck?

Precision Aluminum Manufacturing Inc utilizes both surface mount posts with a 4” x 4” base plate as standard, and standard fascia brackets also referred to as side mount posts.

What type of glass is used?

Precision Aluminum Manufacturing Inc recommends using 5mm (3/16”) tempered, or 6mm (¼”) tempered, for use in Canada, as per the building code.

Can I get obscured, tinted, or etched glass?

Yes. Obscured, tinted or etched glass can be used in the Precision Aluminum Railing systems the same way clear, tempered glass is. We have a wide selection of custom glass to choose from.

What type and size of pickets are available?

Precision Aluminum Manufacturing Inc offers a number of different sized pickets starting with our standard straight 5/8” x 5/8” square; which is the same material we use to make our “Basket” pickets with; a 5/8” x 1½” Wide picket; and also a 3/4” x 3/4” square picket are available.

Can a mid-rail or intermediate rail be added?

Yes, Precision Aluminum railing has a mid-rail for use with both picket and glass styles.

Can I mix picket and glass railings together?

Yes. Many of the same parts are used in both systems. It is very common to have glass railings on the deck and picket railings on the stairs.

Can I add decorative features to a picket railing?

Yes, you can accessorize your railing with round rings, collars, diamond shapes.
